A big thank you to Sam and his family for donating a set of 4 Mindcraft books to the classroom! The students are very excited to start reading them.
Today we read a fabulous book called Owen & Mzee The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship. if We all loved this book but were wondering if Mzee the tortoise is still alive? See if you can find out?
This week has been very busy! We started new stations at Reader's Workshop stations, Explorations, Force and Motion and Math. Thanks to everyone who sent in paper towel and toilet paper rolls, we are using these to build our own marble maze. It is starting to take shape! Ask your child to tell you about Tool Time, Magnetic Mania, Gravity Guess and Building Bonanza.
Club RED is up and running, every day after lunch there is music on while we read and yesterday was our first hallway reading. Hopefully everyone is reading at home, signing and colouring their heart daily. Next Thursday and Friday is Poem in the Pocket - students can bring a poem from home (one they have printed, copied or even written themselves). They should practice reading their poem so that on these days they can confidently share with adults and students!
Hopefully everyone is working on their valentines. Please bring them to school on Friday, Feb. 13th. Thanks again to Amalia, Kevin, Krish, Logan and Manvir for bringing in food for our celebration.
HAPPY FAMILY DAY! Hope you all enjoy your long weekend!

It's hard to believe it is already the end of January! This week we reviewed all the things we had discovered and learned about the different force and motion stations that we explored.
Joanna Cole is our latest author on our Author's Tree! We all enjoy her Magic School Bus books. The class also decided that they want to add Mary Pope Osborne author of Magic Tree House.
Club RED is starting on Sunday. Your child should have brought home information about this home reading club today.
Mrs. Saunders came today to teach gymnastics to both our class and Mrs. Roberts. It was lots of fun.
We are going skating on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 1:00 - the notice will come home next week.
NEEDED - Empty CEREAL BOXES! If you have any please send in and we could still use more toilet paper and paper towel rolls.

Just a reminder that there is no school next Monday and Tuesday as Monday is a professional development day and Tuesday is a school growth plan.
This week we finished our cardinal art projects. They now look great outside our classroom.
We also finished something special for our memory books that you will be able to see at our conferences in March.
We got new buddies this Wednesday and we interviewed each other!
We started some new math stations and the place value dice game is a favourite! We also started
new explorations and we finished our force and motion so next week we will discuss all that we learned and discovered!
We got new Just Right Reading today!
Enjoy your long weekend hopefully all this rain won't continue!

This week we started our Spelling Program - which hopefully you all got the notice about. Each week the students will do a lesson on the phonics focus for the week, if they do not complete these two pages during class time they will be bringing it home to finish. I have also added a new link on the front of our blog called Spelling City which is another great way for them to practice their words.
Thanks for your help with this program.
A huge thank you goes out to Sam, Quinn and Eli's mom for helping the students complete a couple of art projects. We all appreciate their time, patience and work!
This week we started some new Force and Motion stations. We are experimenting with a variety of different objects to make them move in different ways. It's amazing to see what some of them come up with!
PAPER TOWEL AND TOILET PAPER ROLLS ARE NEEDED FOR EXPLORATIONS SO IF EVERYONE COULD PLEASE SEND IN A FEW THAT WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
Thank you to Mallary's grandma for giving Division 7 most of these amazing shells!
This last picture was one the students wanted me to include from our Exploration Stations from last week. It shows you how tiring that first week back after winter break is!

Happy New Year!
Hope you all had a fabulous winter break and enjoyed lots of family time.
Division 7 are all starting this new year off on the right foot! They each made resolutions which you will have to stop by and read. They are great goals but also look good on the bulletin board.
With the new year 2015 we are focusing on place value in math and are using our base ten blocks.
We started a basketball unit in gym which all the students seem very excited about.
We are using our class Ipad to take pictures look at Slowy's kingdom also know as turtle castle!
During Your Time Kevin brought his new puppy which he got for Christmas. Her name is Daisy and she is so cute!
We finished colouring our squares during buddies for Fairview's Collaborative Art project. This bulletin board is in the main hallway going to the gym. Doesn't it look cool!
